Army Troops Free Abducted Victim After Gun Battle With Bandits In Plateau

Troops of the Nigerian Army have rescued a kidnapped victim after pursuing terrorists in Plateau State.

The rescue operation was carried out by troops of Operation Safe Haven and Operation Enduring Peace, following credible intelligence on the movement of armed criminals in the area.

According to military sources, the troops were on patrol when they received a distress call about the abduction of a civilian by suspected terrorists. The soldiers immediately mobilized and chased the kidnappers into the bush, engaging them in a fierce exchange.

The superior firepower of the troops forced the terrorists to abandon their victim and flee into the surrounding forest with gunshot injuries.

The rescued victim, whose identity has not been disclosed for security reasons, was found unharmed and has since been reunited with his family after undergoing preliminary medical checks.

The Defence Headquarters in a statement confirmed the operation, noting that troops have intensified clearance operations in Plateau State and other parts of the North Central region to flush out criminal elements and restore peace in troubled communities.

The military assured residents of its commitment to protecting lives and property and urged the public to continue providing timely information to security agencies to aid operations.

The operation comes amid sustained efforts by the Armed Forces of Nigeria to tackle kidnapping, banditry and other forms of insecurity in Plateau State, which has witnessed recurrent attacks in recent months.
