Enugu Labour Party Publicity Secretary, Former Commissioner for Cheiftain Affairs Defect to PDP

Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party in Enugu, Titus Odo and Emeka Mamah, a former Commissioner for Chieftaincy Affairs in the state, have defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The duo, who were key figures in the Labour Party, were received by the PDP State Chairman, Martin Chukwunwike, at the party’s secretariat on Wednesday.
Mr. Odo and Mr. Mamah had defected to the Labour Party during the 2023 general elections, but have now returned to their former party, citing Governor Peter Mbah’s impressive developmental strides in the state.
The governor, who has been in office for a relatively short period, has been praised for his efforts to transform the state’s infrastructure and economy.
Receiving the defectors, Mr. Chukwunwike expressed delight at their decision to return to the PDP.
“We are happy to have them in our midst, and God has set this party on a good foot, as 2027 is already assured,” he said.
The PDP chairman attributed the defections to Governor Mbah’s directive to reconcile with aggrieved party members who had left the party.
Mr. Odo, who spoke on behalf of the defectors, revealed that Governor Mbah’s developmental achievements were a major factor in their decision to return to the PDP.
“I am happy to tell you that I am back to my home. I came back because of the giant developmental strides of Governor Mbah, and I say kudos to him,” he said.
He also cited the defection of his former boss, Dr. Chijioke Edeoga, the Labour Party’s governorship candidate in the 2023 election, as another reason for his return to the PDP.
Additionally, Mr. Odo praised the council chairman in Igboeze North, Mr. Uchenna Ogara, for transforming the council area into a township. “The council chairman is doing a great job, and I am impressed with the progress he has made,” he said.
Mr. Mamah, who was the state coordinator of the Peter Obi presidential campaign in the 2023 election, also extolled Governor Mbah’s performance, saying, “Personally, I am pleased with the performances of our governor.”
He thanked the PDP leadership in Igboeze North, Enugu North senatorial zone, and the state chapter of the party for receiving him back into the party.
The defections are seen as a significant boost to the PDP in Enugu State, ahead of the 2027 elections. The party has been working to reconcile with its aggrieved members and strengthen its structures in the state. With the return of Mr. Odo and Mr. Mamah, the PDP is poised to consolidate its position as a dominant force in Enugu State politics.
