FRSC Confirms Gas Tanker Blaze in Kaduna, Victims Hospitalised

The Federal Road Safety Corps in Kaduna State has confirmed a fire incident involving a fully loaded Liquefied Natural Gas tanker in the Kwangila area of Zaria Local Government Area, leaving three persons injured and several shops affected.

Sector Commander, Andrew Longkam disclosed in a statement on Sunday that the tanker, owned by Greenville Company, was parked along the Funtua–Zaria road when a gas valve malfunction triggered an explosion and subsequent fire.

According to him, the blaze spread to nearby structures, damaging shops in the vicinity, while three adult males sustained varying degrees of burns. The victims were initially taken to Nakowa Hospital in Yangoro before being referred to the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital for further treatment.

Longkam said emergency responders were able to contain the fire, although it briefly reignited before being completely extinguished.

He added that traffic along the affected route was temporarily diverted to prevent further incidents, with normal movement later restored. Efforts are ongoing to remove the damaged tanker and fully clear the roadway.

The FRSC official urged motorists to remain cautious when approaching the area and to comply with traffic directives issued by officials on ground.

He also commended the swift response of emergency agencies and extended his sympathies to the injured, wishing them a quick recovery.
