Police Rescue Abducted Travellers, Recover Motorcycles in Zamfara Gun Battle

Police operatives have reportedly rescued several abducted travellers and recovered stolen motorcycles following a fierce gun battle with armed bandits in Zamfara State.

The incident was disclosed by counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama, who stated that the confrontation occurred after armed bandits attacked travellers along a major route, abducting some victims and carting away motorcycles before fleeing into nearby forests.

Security sources said a joint police tactical team, supported by local vigilantes, was quickly deployed after receiving a distress alert and engaged the bandits in a heavy exchange of gunfire.

During the operation, the security team reportedly overpowered the attackers, forcing them to abandon some of the abducted victims and flee with possible gunshot wounds into surrounding forest areas.

The report added that several abducted travellers were successfully rescued alive, while at least two motorcycles taken during the attack were recovered at the scene of the incident.

Following the rescue, the area was cordoned off as security operatives launched a follow-up operation aimed at tracking the fleeing suspects and preventing further attacks along the axis.

Zamfara State remains one of the epicentres of banditry in north-west Nigeria, where armed groups frequently carry out kidnappings, ambushes, and highway attacks despite ongoing military and police operations aimed at restoring peace.

Security agencies have continued to call on residents to provide credible intelligence to support ongoing operations against armed criminal groups in the region.
