Stop Glorifying Terrorists, Support Troops to End Insecurity, Nigerian Army Tells Citizens
The Nigerian Army has urged citizens to refrain from glorifying terrorists and criminal elements, warning that such actions undermine ongoing efforts to tackle insecurity across the country.
The appeal was made by the Commander of the Infantry Corps of the Nigerian Army, Major General Godwin Mutkut, who stressed the importance of public support in the fight against terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and other security threats.
Mutkut expressed concern over the growing trend of individuals spreading propaganda that portrays terrorists in a positive light, noting that such narratives could weaken national security efforts and demoralise troops risking their lives to protect the country.
According to him, soldiers deployed across various theatres of operation have continued to make significant sacrifices, with many losing their lives or sustaining injuries while defending communities from criminal groups.
He emphasized that the battle against insecurity cannot be won by the military alone, calling on Nigerians to cooperate with security agencies by providing credible intelligence and supporting efforts aimed at restoring peace and stability.
The Infantry Corps commander noted that members of the Armed Forces remain committed to protecting the nation despite the challenges they face, adding that public encouragement and trust are crucial to the success of ongoing operations.
His remarks come amid intensified military offensives against terrorist groups and armed bandits in several parts of the country. Security forces have recorded a series of successes in recent months, including the neutralisation of insurgents, destruction of criminal hideouts and rescue of kidnapped victims.
The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its determination to sustain pressure on criminal elements and urged citizens to play their part in promoting national security by rejecting narratives that glorify terrorists and supporting troops engaged in the defence of the nation.
