COAS Visits North-East, Reaffirms Army’s Resolve Against Terrorism
The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, on Friday reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s determination to defeat all security threats across the country, despite recent operational challenges in the North-East.
Shaibu made the declaration during an operational visit to Yobe State, where he conducted a battlefield assessment and engaged troops under Operation HADIN KAI, stressing that the Army remains resolute and undeterred in fulfilling its constitutional mandate.
The Army Chief, who was received by Governor Mai Mala Buni at the Muhammadu Buhari International Cargo Airport in Damaturu, said ongoing adjustments in operational strategies would enable troops to effectively counter evolving threats and consolidate gains recorded in various theatres of operation.
He acknowledged recent attacks on military positions but assured that such incidents would not weaken the resolve of the Armed Forces.
“Despite the evolving nature of security threats nationwide, the Nigerian Army will continue to stand firm and decisively confront all forms of terrorism,” he said, urging state governments to strengthen support for troops on the frontline.
Shaibu also commended the government and people of Yobe State for their continued support, noting that collaboration between civil authorities and the military remains critical to achieving lasting peace.
Meanwhile, Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum, alongside Senator Ali Ndume, paid a condolence visit to the Army Chief at the Headquarters, Sector 2 Joint Task Force North-East in Damaturu, following the loss of personnel in recent encounters with terrorists.
Zulum pledged to develop additional strategies to support security agencies in addressing the dynamic nature of threats in the region.
During his interaction with troops, the COAS charged them to remain aggressive and relentless in their operations, urging them to honour fallen comrades through sustained commitment to restoring peace and security.
Earlier, the Yobe State Deputy Governor, who represented Governor Buni, commended the Nigerian Army for its resilience and significant role in restoring stability in affected areas, despite ongoing operational pressures. He also offered prayers for personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty.
