Lagos State Announces Traffic Diversions for 2026 Fanti Carnival

The Lagos State Government has issued a notice regarding temporary traffic diversions in anticipation of the 2026 Fanti Carnival. Organized by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, the annual cultural celebration is set to take place on Monday, April 6.

Key roads on Lagos Island will be affected by these closures, including King George V Road at the Mobil junction and the Onikan Roundabout leading to TBS. Other restricted areas include Flagstaff House, Outer Marina by the State House, Campbell Street, and Catholic Mission Street.

Traffic restrictions are scheduled to begin at 7:00 a.m. on the day of the event. Commuters and local residents are encouraged to plan their movements in advance to avoid being caught in the expected congestion around the Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) axis.

To minimize delays, the government has advised motorists to utilize alternative routes throughout the duration of the carnival. Traffic management officials will likely be stationed at strategic points to guide drivers and maintain order during the festivities.

The Fanti Carnival is a major highlight of the state’s cultural calendar, designed to showcase the vibrant heritage and traditions of Lagos. Officials expect a high turnout of participants and spectators, which necessitated the early announcement of the security and traffic plan.

Expressing regret for any potential travel disruptions, the state government has appealed for the public’s patience and cooperation. The Ministry emphasized that these measures are essential to ensure a safe and successful celebration for all attendees.
