Bode George Commends Tinubu Over State Police Initiative

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain and elder statesman, Chief Bode George, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for introducing the state police initiative, describing it as a welcome development that would strengthen security and create jobs for young people.

Speaking on the development, George said he was pleased with the move, noting that establishing state police would enable communities to respond more effectively to security threats, particularly attacks by bandits.

“I thank President Bola Ahmed Tinubu immensely for bringing the state police. It is very good and it makes me happy,” George said.

The elder statesman argued that locally recruited police officers would have a better understanding of their communities than officers deployed from distant locations.

According to him, if criminals invade a community, security personnel drawn from the area would be better positioned to identify residents, question unfamiliar faces, and respond promptly to threats.

“They will protect the environment and when an intruder or visitor comes in, they will ask where he is coming from and which house he is going to,” he said.

George also said the establishment of state police would create employment opportunities for Nigerian youths.

Emphasising his willingness to speak his mind irrespective of political considerations, the PDP chieftain said he was guided by truth above all else.

“There is nobody that I am scared of aside from the Almighty. Where the truth is, I will say it,” he said, adding that he is a grandson of nationalist Herbert Macaulay.

George further cited a Yoruba proverb to stress the importance of doing things appropriately, saying that when systems are properly structured, they are more likely to function effectively.
