No Room for Banditry in Islam, Says Sultan

The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar has said that Islam does not give room for banditry, terrorism, kidnappings and other criminal actions.

He admonished Nigerians to deter from profiling criminals along criminal or ethnic lines but rather, they should promote peaceful coexistence.

The Sultan gave this statement on Monday while addressing 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream I National Youth Service Corps Members who paid him a courtesy visit at his palace in Sokoto state.

He pointed out that people arrested for criminal activities hail from different ethnic and religious backgrounds. He said a person who commits a crime is simply a criminal whether he or she bears a Muslim name, Christian name, a Fulani, Hausa or a Yoruba name.

The Sultan also gave words of encouragement to the corps members to eradicate negative stereotypes about their state of deployment, Sokoto state. He assured them that they will eat the good of the land and experience hospitality and peace during their service year.

He also advised them to avoid sharing unverified information on social media because false narratives can encourage criminals to keep up with their acts.

He also said that the good narratives should be shared widely on social media because doing otherwise, will only help evil to thrive.
