Alaafin Donates Hospital Equipment to Muslim Community in Oyo
The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Owoade, has donated hospital beds and other medical equipment to a Muslim community in Oyo State as part of efforts to improve healthcare delivery.
The monarch, who spoke through his Chief of Staff, Lukman Ajibade, said the donation was aimed at saving lives and supporting access to basic medical services.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday by his Director of Media and Publicity, Bode Durojaye.
Oba Owoade emphasized the broader importance of affordable healthcare, noting that it impacts not only individuals but also families and entire communities.
“The health of individuals is closely linked to the well-being of the community, and by extension, the collective health of residents determines overall societal wellness,” he said.
He added that accessible healthcare helps families maintain financial stability, enabling them to plan for the future and meet other needs without being overwhelmed by medical expenses.
According to the monarch, improved access to healthcare also reduces the spread of diseases, as individuals are more likely to seek early treatment and preventive care when costs are manageable.
He noted that healthier communities tend to be more productive, contributing to economic growth and overall development.
The traditional ruler reaffirmed his commitment to improving the socio-economic welfare of his people.
In response, an Islamic scholar, Daud Igi-Ogun, expressed appreciation for the gesture, describing the Alaafin as a forward-thinking and compassionate leader.
The donation reflects a growing trend among traditional rulers in Nigeria who are supporting healthcare initiatives in their communities through provision of medical equipment, sponsorship of outreach programmes and other interventions aimed at improving access to essential health services, particularly in underserved areas.
