Gas Explosion Razes Shops, Vehicles Along Major Highway in Jigawa
A devastating gas explosion has razed three shops, destroyed a commercial vehicle, and burnt several motorcycles in Hadejia Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
The incident, which occurred on Saturday night at about 8:30 PM along the heavily congested Hadejia-Kano road, originated from a local gas refilling shop.
The Jigawa State Fire Service confirmed that the explosion was triggered when a customer parked his motorcycle too close to an active gas refilling point while leaving the engine running. Heat or sparks from the running motorcycle ignited escaping gas, sparking an instant, uncontrollable inferno.
According to a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the state Fire Service, DSP Aliyu M. A., the rapid deployment of firefighters from the Hadejia fire station prevented the blaze from consuming an adjacent commercial fuel station and nearby residential structures. While the fire completely destroyed three shops and ruined several vehicles, emergency responders confirmed that no lives were lost and no injuries were recorded in the incident.
