Eight Kano Reps Dump NNPP for APC
Eight members of the House of Representatives from Kano State have defected from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), marking a significant shift in the state’s political landscape.
The lawmakers’ of defection was formally announced on Tuesday during plenary at the Green Chamber, drawing attention from key political figures.
The development comes shortly after Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, who was elected on the NNPP platform, also declared his move to the APC.
Several prominent figures were present at the National Assembly to witness the announcement, including Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin and former Kano And state governor, Abdullahi Ganduje now an APC leader.
Observers say the coordinated defection of the lawmakers is likely to alter the balance of power in Kano, Nigeria’s most populous state, while strengthening the APC’s position in the House of Representatives.
The lawmakers have not publicly stated their reasons for leaving the NNPP. However, political analysts attribute the move to ongoing internal divisions and strategic repositioning ahead of future elections.
The shift is expected to intensify political competition in Kano, as both parties seek to consolidate influence in the lead-up to the next electoral cycle.
