Suspected bandits have raided Dangoro village, Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State, leaving at least three residents dead.
The gunmen reportedly invaded the village in large numbers, catching the locals off guard during the late hours of the night.
The attackers moved from house to house, shooting sporadically and causing widespread panic. Among the deceased were individuals who attempted to flee or resist the invasion, while several others sustained various degrees of injuries during the chaotic encounter.
In addition to the loss of lives, the bandits set numerous residential buildings and silos on fire. The destruction of these homes has left many families displaced and without shelter, further worsening the humanitarian situation in the affected rural area.
Food reserves and valuable property were not spared, as the raiders systematically looted the community before setting it ablaze.
This targeted destruction of food barns is a significant blow to the local farmers who rely on these stocks for their livelihood.
Local sources revealed that the bandits also made away with a large number of livestock during the operation. The scale of the theft and arson suggests a coordinated effort to destabilize the community and strip the residents of their remaining resources.
Security agencies have reportedly been notified of the incident and are working to restore order in the general area. Meanwhile, survivors are calling on both the state and federal governments to provide urgent relief materials and permanent security outposts to prevent future occurrences.
