Gunmen Attack Plateau community, Kill Residents
Gunmen attacked Agwan Rukuba community in Jos North Local Government Area on Sunday night, killing an unspecified number of residents and sparking tension in the area.
Eyewitnesses said the attackers arrived on motorcycles around 7:30 p.m. and opened fire on residents as they went about their activities, causing panic and forcing people to flee for safety.
The exact number of casualties had not been confirmed at the time of filing this report, as residents were still attempting to identify those killed in the attack.
The assailants reportedly left the scene shortly after carrying out the assault.
Following the incident, some angry youths in the community allegedly blocked a road and carried out further violence, resulting in the killing of several commercial motorcycle operators and their passengers.
In response to the unrest, troops from Operation Enduring Peace were deployed to restore order and prevent further escalation.
The spokesperson of the operation, Captain Polycap Oteh, said he would provide more details after investigating the circumstances surrounding the attack, but had not released further information at the time of this report.
The incident has heightened tension across Jos metropolis as security efforts continue.
