Power Stability Requires Patience, Not Just Three Years, Posits Governor Abiodun

By 𝔸bdulrazak Tomiwa

Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has stated that Nigeria cannot achieve a 100% stable power supply within a three-and-half-year period.

Speaking at the 2026 APC National Convention, he explained that the sector’s deep-seated challenges require more time and patience to resolve.

Abiodun acknowledged the recent inconsistencies in electricity, noting the frustrations of the “common man” over the past few weeks. He pointed out that despite massive financial investments by successive administrations over decades, the sector still lacks significant, visible progress.

The governor remained optimistic, however, asserting that the power situation is gradually improving under current reforms. He described the ongoing efforts as “so far, so well,” suggesting that a foundation for a more reliable energy future is being established.

Beyond power, Abiodun highlighted broader economic milestones achieved under President Bola Tinubu’s administration. He specifically noted the elimination of long-standing petrol queues and the stabilization of fuel prices as major successes in the energy landscape.

He also praised the stabilization of the national currency, stating that the dollar is no longer being used as a primary store of wealth. According to the governor, the exchange rate has finally become predictable, aiding better economic planning for the country.

Regarding national finances, Abiodun revealed that Nigeria’s foreign reserves are now approaching the $50 billion mark. While acknowledging these macroeconomic gains, he admitted it may take more time for the benefits to fully trickle down to the grassroots level.

On security, the governor assured the public that President Tinubu is “on top of the situation” despite ongoing difficulties. He expressed confidence that security threats would begin to taper out before the upcoming elections through frontal government intervention.

Finally, Abiodun suggested that some national security challenges are linked to political adversaries and strategic interests.

He noted that the government is striking international alliances to confront these issues and remains committed to overcoming them.
