The Anambra State Police Command have arrested three suspected armed robbers and cultists during a targeted raid.

Operatives from the Awkuzu Rapid Response Squad apprehended the group on March 21, 2026.

The operation took place in Ogidi, Idemili North, following credible intelligence regarding a criminal hideout. The suspects were identified as Francis Chukwuka Anene, Emmanuel Obi, and Okoye Chinonso.

One suspect, Okoye Chinonso, is allegedly a serving member of a security agency.

Police recovered two locally made Beretta pistols, live ammunition, and a suspected fake ID card.

The syndicate is linked to armed robbery, kidnapping, and terrorizing the Ogidi community. They are also being investigated for the murder of the late President General of Ogidi.

In a separate incident, officers from the Ozubulu Division recovered an abandoned petrol tanker. The vehicle was found on March 17 along the Onitsha/Owerri Expressway with the key still inside.

Police are currently working to trace the owner of the tanker and investigate its abandonment. This follows recent successes, including the arrest of suspects involved in a staged kidnapping.

Commissioner of Police Ikioye Orutugu reaffirmed the command’s commitment to state safety. He urged the public to continue providing timely information to help combat crime.
