Tinubu Urges Nigerians to Ignore Negative Narratives Abroad
President Bola Tinubu has urged Nigerians to disregard negative narratives about the country, expressing confidence in their ability to succeed globally.
Speaking on Thursday at a reception held at Tate Modern in London, the President commended the resilience and creativity of Nigerians, noting their role in reshaping the country’s image through innovation and cultural expression.
The event, organised by the British government as part of activities marking his state visit, celebrated the contributions of Nigerians to national development and global influence.
Tinubu described the theme of the exhibition, Nigeria’s modernism, as a reflection of a transformative era in which Nigerian pioneers redefined their identity and legacy. He added that the blending of traditional and modern influences has produced enduring works that continue to shape global culture.
The President also assured the audience that Nigeria’s economy is emerging from a period of uncertainty and is on a path toward growth and stability.
According to a statement by his spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu advised against focusing on negative indices, stressing his belief in the capacity of Nigerians to excel wherever they find themselves.
In his remarks, David Lammy highlighted the strong relationship between Nigeria and the United Kingdom, noting that trade between both countries has reached £8.1 billion annually.
He added that over half a million Nigerians are contributing to the cultural and economic life of the UK.
Lammy also underscored Nigeria’s growing global cultural influence and the importance of continued collaboration between both nations.
The event was moderated by Abike Dabiri-Erewa, who highlighted the achievements of Nigerians in prominent positions across the United Kingdom.
Among those in attendance were Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Dapo Abiodun, and several federal cabinet members, reflecting high level representation from Nigeria’s government.
