Jigawa Governor Pardons 12 Inmates for Eid al-Fitr

By Rachel Akper

The Governor of Jigawa State, Umar Namadi, has granted pardon to 12 inmates in correctional facilities across the state as part of activities to mark the Eid al-Fitr celebration.

The state’s Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Bello Fanini, disclosed this in a statement issued in Dutse on Thursday.

Fanini said the governor’s decision followed recommendations from the State Advisory Council on the Prerogative of Mercy and was in line with the provisions of Section 212(1) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

He explained that the gesture reflects the administration’s commitment to compassion, rehabilitation, and reintegration of inmates into society, especially during a period that emphasizes forgiveness and mercy.

According to him, the beneficiaries were selected based on their good conduct while in custody and the fact that many of them had only a short time left to complete their jail terms.

The pardoned inmates include Ibrahim Adamu Isa, Sa’idu Umar, Adamu Musa, Habibu Musa, Yusuf Ahmed, Shu’aibu Adamu, Abdullahi Ya’u, Yahaya Jana’u, Abdul Hamisu, Garba Miko, Salisu Isa, and Aliyu Ibrahim.

Fanini urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the opportunity by turning a new leaf and becoming responsible citizens. He also called on the public to support their reintegration into society.

The pardon is part of efforts by the state government to promote justice reform and uphold the values of mercy and forgiveness associated with the Eid celebration.
