Barcelona Run Riot Against Newcastle, Seal Quarter-Final Spot in Style

Barcelona delivered a ruthless attacking display to thrash Newcastle United 7-2 on Wednesday night, sealing an emphatic 8-3 aggregate victory and booking their place in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals.

The Spanish giants produced a scintillating performance at Camp Nou, with Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha both netting braces in a one-sided encounter that exposed Newcastle’s defensive frailties.

Teen sensation Lamine Yamal, along with Marc Bernal and Fermin Lopez, also got on the scoresheet as the hosts overwhelmed their English opponents.

Hansi Flick’s side entered the second leg with confidence and wasted little time asserting their dominance. Despite a lively first half that ended 3-2, Barcelona shifted gears after the break, with Lopez extending their lead almost immediately to take control of the tie.

From that point, the Catalan club dictated proceedings, slicing through Newcastle’s defence with fluid attacking movements and clinical finishing to turn the match into a rout.

Speaking after the game, Raphinha praised the home support, acknowledging the role of the fans in Barcelona’s commanding performance. “With the fans supporting us like that for 90 minutes, it’s hard to beat us at home,” he said. “Scoring the fourth goal quickly after the break helped us stay calm and control the game.”

The victory underlines Barcelona’s growing belief as they chase a sixth Champions League title and their first since 2015. Their attacking firepower, on full display in this tie, suggests they could be serious contenders as the competition progresses.

For Newcastle United, however, the night ended in disappointment. Eddie Howe’s side had hoped to reach the quarter-finals for the first time in their history, but instead exited the tournament after a humbling defeat that highlighted the gap between them and Europe’s elite.
