UAE Suspends Oil Loading at Fujairah Port After Suspected Iranian Drone Strike
By Momodu Favour
Authorities in the United Arab Emirates have suspended oil loading operations at the strategic Port of Fujairah after a suspected Iranian drone strike triggered a massive fire at the facility.
The incident, which occurred on Monday, reportedly caused significant disruption at the key oil export hub located along the Gulf of Oman. Emergency response teams were immediately deployed to the scene to contain the blaze and prevent further damage to oil storage facilities and nearby infrastructure.
Officials said oil loading activities at the port were temporarily halted as safety teams carried out emergency assessments and firefighting operations.
The suspension is expected to affect tanker movements and crude shipments from one of the world’s largest bunkering and oil storage hubs.
Initial reports indicate the fire broke out after a drone strike believed to have originated from Iran hit an oil-related facility near the port, igniting a large blaze visible from several kilometres away.
Authorities have yet to confirm the extent of damage or whether there were casualties. However, security around the port and surrounding areas has been tightened while investigations into the incident continue.
The Port of Fujairah plays a crucial role in global energy supply chains, serving as a major refuelling and oil storage centre outside the Strait of Hormuz. Any disruption at the facility is likely to raise concerns in global oil markets.
Further details are expected as emergency services and government officials continue to assess the situation.
