Reps Threaten Arrest Warrants for Agency Heads Over Audit Snub
By 𝔸bdulrazak Tomiwa
A House of Representatives ad-hoc committee has threatened arrest warrants for several agency heads. This follows their persistent refusal to honor invitations regarding terminal concessions.
Chairman Kolawole Akinlayo accused officials of deliberately stalling the legislative probe. He noted that invitations were ignored and submitted records were largely incomplete.
Entities cited for non-compliance include the NPA, NIMASA, and Customs. Private firms like NLNG and Julius Berger were also identified as failing to cooperate.
The investigation evaluates federal revenue from air and sea terminals (2006–2025). Lawmakers aim to account for all funds due to the federation.
Akinlayo warned he will invoke constitutional powers to compel attendance. The 1999 Constitution allows the National Assembly to arrest individuals evading legislative accountability.
This move reflects a broader effort to stop revenue leakages and enforce transparency.
Lawmakers emphasized they will no longer tolerate excuses regarding democratic oversight.
