The Kwara State Government has donated industrial garri processing machines to the Owode Oja community in Asa Local Government.
The initiative is designed to scale up food production, create local jobs, and enhance the overall livelihoods of residents.
The donation fulfills a promise made by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq during a project inspection visit in August 2025. After consulting with local women about their economic needs, the Governor committed to providing tools for industrial growth.
The provided equipment includes a high-capacity cassava grater, a mash sifter, and an industrial fryer. These machines are capable of processing 1.5 tonnes of cassava daily, significantly increasing the community’s output.
Representing the Governor, Rafiu Ajakaye described the leader as a man of action dedicated to the masses. He emphasized that the administration remains focused on fostering self-reliance and economic prosperity through such interventions.
To ensure the project’s long-term success, technical experts will train residents on operating and maintaining the machinery. This training aims to maximize productivity and ensure the equipment remains in good working condition.
The government also highlighted the completion of a 23km rural road project in the area. This infrastructure is vital for connecting local farmers and the new processing center to larger commercial markets.
Community leaders expressed deep gratitude, noting that the factory will help reduce rural-urban migration.
They observed that local women can now earn a sustainable living at home rather than traveling to distant cities for work.
