Iran Demands Recognition of Rights and Reparations to End Conflict With US, Israel

Iran’s president, Masoud Pezeshkian, has said that the conflict involving his country, the United States, and Israel can only come to an end if Iran’s rights are acknowledged, compensation is paid, and binding assurances are provided to prevent further attacks.

In a message shared on X on Wednesday, Pezeshkian disclosed that he had spoken with leaders from Russia and Pakistan during which he reiterated Tehran’s desire for stability in the region.

According to him, the conflict which he claimed was triggered by Israel and the United States can only be resolved through recognition of Iran’s legitimate rights, the payment of reparations for damages, and firm international guarantees to ensure that similar attacks do not occur in the future.

Reports indicate that the death toll in Iran has climbed significantly since military strikes by the US and Israel began nearly two weeks ago. At least 1,300 Iranians are said to have lost their lives during the hostilities.

Among those reportedly killed are prominent Iranian figures, including the country’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, Secretary of the Iranian Defence Council Ali Shamkhani, and the commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Mohammad Pakpour.

The conflict has also resulted in casualties on the other side. Eight American service members and at least 12 people in Israel have reportedly been killed in retaliatory attacks launched by Iran.

Beyond the human toll, the hostilities have also shaken global energy markets. Oil prices surged to nearly $120 per barrel following the outbreak of the conflict before easing slightly. Even after the drop, crude oil remains around $87 per barrel, roughly 20 percent higher than the price recorded before the fighting began.
