Cross River Intensifies Rollout of Federal Proof of Address Scheme

The government of Cross River has stepped up efforts to implement the Proof of Address (PoA) initiative of the Federal Government of Nigeria, a nationwide reform aimed at replacing informal residence documentation with a standardized and verifiable address system.

State officials say the intensified rollout follows a series of sensitisation programs targeting ministries, agencies, and local government authorities.

The campaign is designed to align stakeholders ahead of full implementation and ensure smooth integration of the new address database across government services.

Speaking at a recent engagement in Calabar, coordinators of the program described the PoA system as a critical tool for improving governance, security, and service delivery.

By creating a structured address database, authorities expect enhanced crime intelligence, faster emergency response, and improved access to government and financial services. The initiative also aims to strengthen planning and revenue systems at both state and local government levels.

Officials noted that accurate address records would support better resource allocation and policy planning, while reducing dependence on informal documentation such as utility bills for residency verification.

Cross River’s rollout forms part of a broader national strategy as several states have already adopted the PoA framework.

Supporters of the program argue that standardized address identification will modernize Nigeria’s civic data infrastructure and improve citizen engagement with public services.

State authorities have urged residents and businesses to cooperate with the implementation process, assuring that the new system will enhance security and administrative efficiency without imposing undue burdens on citizens.
