TCN Demolishes Illegal Structures in Edo Transmission Corridor

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has demolished illegal structures built along its transmission corridor in Edo State in a bid to protect critical electricity infrastructure and ensure public safety.
The exercise was carried out on the Ihovbor–Ajaokuta 330kV transmission line in Ihovbor community, Edo State.
TCN officials said the operation was necessary to reclaim the Right of Way for the high-voltage transmission line and prevent possible accidents and power supply disruptions. The company said the exercise was conducted by its Benin Regional Office with support from its headquarters.
The clearance exercise followed prior engagements with community stakeholders. TCN said it had earlier issued a three-month notice to affected residents and paid compensation to property owners whose structures were affected.
The company said encroachment on transmission corridors poses serious risks, including electrocution hazards, damage to power infrastructure, and disruption of electricity supply.
TCN urged residents to avoid building or trading under high-voltage power lines and called on relevant authorities to enforce urban planning regulations to prevent future encroachment.
The company reaffirmed its commitment to protecting transmission infrastructure across the country. It warned that similar enforcement exercises would continue in other parts of Nigeria where illegal structures are found on transmission corridors.
