Delta Police Activate Mobile Courts to Prosecute Traffic Offenders

The Delta State Police Command has announced a statewide crackdown on traffic violations, declaring that offenders will be promptly prosecuted through newly operational mobile courts.

The directive follows confirmation from the Delta State Judiciary that designated mobile courts are now functional across several jurisdictions within the state.

Authorities say the courts are authorised to summarily try traffic offenders and other violators under existing laws.

In a statement issued Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright, disclosed that enforcement activities will be stepped up on major highways and in key urban centres including Asaba, Warri, Effurun, Sapele, Ughelli and Agbor, among other locations.

The Command listed offences that will attract immediate arrest and prosecution to include reckless driving, driving against traffic, use of unauthorised number plates, operating vehicles without registration numbers, illegal use of sirens and revolving lights, obstruction and related traffic infractions.

Residents were cautioned against flouting traffic regulations, with the police warning that acts of indiscipline, obstruction of officers or attempts to evade arrest will not be tolerated.

According to the Command, the intensified measures are designed to restore order on the roads, enhance public safety and ensure strict compliance with traffic laws. While law abiding citizens have been assured of their safety, those who violate the rules have been advised to expect firm legal consequences.

SP Bright added that under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, Aina Adesola, the Command remains focused on strengthening public safety and upholding the rule of law across Delta State.
