Thomas Tuchel Extends England Head Coach Contract Until EURO 2028
Thomas Tuchel has officially extended his contract as England’s men’s national football team head coach, keeping him in charge until after UEFA EURO 2028.
The announcement ensures Tuchel will lead the team through the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup and the European Championship, which England will co-host. Tuchel, who was appointed England manager in January 2025, described the extension as a “pleasure” and expressed pride in the progress the team and coaching staff have made together. “I am excited to continue working with these players and staff and to build on the foundation we have created,” Tuchel said. The Football Association (FA) and CEO Mark Bullingham welcomed the news, praising Tuchel’s leadership and long-term vision for the national team. “We have a world-class coach at the helm, and this extension underlines our commitment to continuity and success at the highest level,” Bullingham stated. Several key members of Tuchel’s coaching team have also extended their contracts until 2028, ensuring stability in the backroom staff ahead of major tournaments. The extension also signals that Tuchel will remain focused on international football, ruling out potential moves to club management this summer. Under Tuchel’s guidance, England enjoyed a strong World Cup qualifying campaign, and the FA believes the team is well-positioned to challenge for major honors in the coming years. The continuity provided by this extension is seen as a crucial step in preparing for both the 2026 World Cup and EURO 2028.
