Kwankwaso Justifies Demolitions, Revocations of Illegally Sited, Acquired Properties

Following a closed-door meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), addressed the press on matters relating to recent political developments, particularly Demolitions and Revocations in Kano State.

Speaking to journalists, Kwankwaso focused on the controversial demolition of structures currently underway in Kano. He stated that the demolitions were part of the NNPP-led state government’s efforts to reclaim public properties that were allegedly sold illegally during the administration of former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje.

According to the former Kano State governor, the demolitions have affected a range of properties, including educational institutions and media facilities.

Kwankwaso disclosed that President Tinubu expressed shock upon being briefed about the scale and nature of these alleged irregularities.

“Even the President was surprised about the extent of the damage done under the previous administration,” Kwankwaso said.

The meeting between the two political figures has sparked speculations about potential political alignments, particularly the possibility of Kwankwaso joining Tinubu’s administration. While acknowledging that discussions are ongoing, Kwankwaso clarified that no final decisions have been made regarding any ministerial or executive role.

“There are ongoing talks, but we are yet to conclude on anything,” he said, when asked about rumors of his appointment or defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Kwankwaso also dismissed reports suggesting he was considering leaving the NNPP, reaffirming his commitment to the party and its ideals. He highlighted that Tinubu is seeking to build a government of national unity, which could include figures from different political backgrounds.

This latest meeting follows a previous engagement between the two leaders in Paris, where they reportedly held a four-hour discussion centered on collaboration and national unity. The Paris meeting was attended by high-ranking political figures, including Speaker of the House of Representatives Femi Gbajabiamila and NNPP representative-elect Abdulmumin Jibrin.

As political observers continue to monitor developments, Kwankwaso has urged supporters to remain calm and trust in the leadership of the NNPP, assuring them that any future decisions will align with the party’s principles and the interest of the Nigerian people.
