Anambra Mother Arrested Over Videos Allegedly Showing Abuse of Her Daughters for Profit

A woman has been arrested in Anambra State after disturbing videos surfaced online appearing to show her sexually abusing her two young daughters and sharing the footage for money.

The video that led to her arrest allegedly showed her using sex toys on her eight year old daughter, with the girl heard crying and pleading with her mother to stop as the alleged abuse continued.

The footage allegedly showed the material being produced for an online audience, and the woman was traced through open source intelligence before her arrest on a Thursday evening.

The operation that led to her capture also resulted in the rescue of four children aged two, three, six and nine years.

During questioning, the woman admitted to using her daughter in the videos and did not deny abusing her older daughter as well, after more than one child was identified in the footage. She said her husband had no knowledge of what she had allegedly been doing to their two daughters, and she asked for forgiveness, blaming the act on the devil, saying, “It is the devil, please forgive me.”

She said she had made about three hundred dollars from sharing the videos online, a claim that has fuelled public outrage since the case came to light. Nigerians reacting to the case have called for full prosecution and demanded that the children receive proper protection and support going forward.

The case has renewed concern over the ease with which child sexual abuse material continues to circulate on social media before platforms or authorities intervene, and it comes amid growing calls in Nigeria for tougher enforcement against those who exploit children for online content. Charges against the suspect and a court date have not yet been disclosed.
