Rivers Unveils Innovation Hub to Empower Youths, Curb Unemployment

The Rivers State Government has officially inaugurated the Adolescent and Young Peoples Innovation Hub in the Fimie community, Port Harcourt.
This facility is designed to tackle youth unemployment, bridge skill gaps, and address health vulnerabilities like HIV among the state’s younger population.
State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Adaeze Oreh, commissioned the project on behalf of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
She noted that the hub represents a bold investment in the future of Rivers’ youth, providing them with a platform for innovative and youth-centered interventions.
The initiative is a collaborative effort between the state government and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention through the Institute of Human Virology Nigeria (IHVN).
Project Hope is also providing implementation support to ensure the hub’s long-term success.
Highlighting the impact of the new facility, Health Commissioner Dr. Adaeze Oreh stated: “This hub goes beyond skills training; it creates opportunities, restores dignity, and nurtures hope.” She emphasized that every participant should leave the program equipped for self-reliance.
The hub will train cohorts of 50 students over six-month periods in diverse fields, including web design, robotics, and culinary arts. It features state-of-the-art equipment, such as a professional kitchen and a dedicated tech innovation room for application development.
The Amayanabo of Fimie Kingdom, Dr. Bernard Fimie, expressed gratitude for the project being located in his domain.
He urged the youth to take full advantage of the resources provided to drive community development and reduce social vulnerabilities.
