Osun APC Chieftain Rallies Supporters Ahead of August Governorship Poll
A leading figure in the All Progressives Congress in Osun State, Dotun Babayemi, has intensified efforts to galvanize party faithful ahead of the state’s governorship election scheduled for August 16.
Speaking on Thursday in Osogbo, the state capital, Babayemi appealed to members of his political platform, the Ireti Osun Movement, to close ranks and work collectively toward ensuring a decisive victory for the APC at the polls.
The meeting, convened to address emerging concerns within the group, underscored the need for unity and loyalty as election activities gather momentum.
Addressing his supporters, Babayemi emphasized the importance of discipline within party structures and urged members to respect established decisions taken by the APC leadership.
“I want to sincerely thank you for your unwavering support for me and our great party, the APC. At this juncture, I appeal to all of us to stay focused, strong, and united. The party is supreme, and its decision is binding on everyone,” Babayemi said.
The gathering followed reports that some members of the movement were considering aligning with other political parties. According to the leader of the group, Gbenga Adebusuyi, the meeting was organized to dispel such speculations and reinforce commitment to the APC’s objectives.
Adebusuyi noted that the rumours had created unease within the fold and required urgent clarification from Babayemi, who is regarded as a key mobilizer in the state’s political landscape.
In his response, the APC stalwart cautioned against any form of defection or divided loyalty, insisting that the party remains the most viable platform for political advancement in Osun State.
“We know how you feel, but flirting with or even defecting to any other political party is not an option. We should remain focused, united, and committed to the ideals of our great party, the APC,” he stated.
Babayemi further reminded supporters that the responsibility of securing electoral success rests on the collective effort of all members, adding that grassroots mobilization and dedication would be critical in the weeks ahead.
“APC is the only vehicle for achieving electoral success for Osun and its people, not only in the forthcoming governorship election but also in the 2027 general elections, particularly for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election. Let’s ensure the party reaches a successful and safe berth,” he said.
The APC in Osun State is preparing for what is expected to be a keenly contested election, and party leaders have continued to hold strategic meetings aimed at consolidating their support base. With the election date drawing closer, Babayemi’s call for cohesion signals an effort to prevent internal divisions that could undermine the party’s chances.
Political observers believe that how effectively the APC manages its internal dynamics in the coming months may play a significant role in determining the outcome of the governorship race.
