Edo Deputy Governor Dismisses Plot to Create Rift With Okpebholo
The Deputy Governor of Edo State, Dennis, has strongly condemned what he described as attempts by some individuals to create discord between him and Governor Monday Okpebholo, insisting that such efforts are futile and will not distract the administration from governance.
Idahosa, a former member of the House of Representatives, said those behind the alleged plot should channel their energies toward initiatives that would support and add value to the governor’s SHINE Agenda, rather than sponsoring what he termed divisive narratives.
In a statement signed by the deputy governor and made available to journalists in Benin on Friday, Idahosa described the alleged schemers as distractors who are uncomfortable with the unity and practical governance being demonstrated by the current administration.
He vowed to remain loyal to Governor Okpebholo despite what he said were sustained online smear campaigns targeting the government, the governor, and other top officials.
“It has come to my attention that certain individuals, unsettled by the unity between my boss, Senator Monday Okpebholo, and myself, have resorted to sponsoring false narratives online in a desperate attempt to sow seeds of discord,” Idahosa said.
He stressed that any plan aimed at weakening the bond between him and the governor was already doomed to fail. “Let it be clearly stated that their efforts will amount to nothing. As long as my boss, my senior brother, and I remain united, such plans are bound to fail,” he added.
Reaffirming his allegiance, the deputy governor declared that he stands firmly with the governor, describing any attempt to divide the leadership of the state as “dead on arrival.”
Idahosa further assured Edo residents that the Okpebholo-led administration remains focused on delivering its campaign promises and providing effective governance.
He urged the people of the state to remain steadfast in their support for the government, saying the administration would not be distracted by what he described as needless political distractions.
The statement comes amid heightened political commentary on social media, as the new administration continues to roll out its policy direction under the SHINE Agenda.
