Govt Pleadges Action as 9,130 Osun Retirees Demand Benefits

Approximately 9,130 retirees under the Independent Contributory Pension Scheme in Osun State have appealed to the government to release their long-overdue retirement benefits.
The affected individuals, who retired between 2017 and 2025, represent various sectors including the civil service, teaching service, and local government.
The retirees’ chairman, Moses Fayemi, highlighted the severe hardship members are facing due to the non-payment of these bonds.
He noted that while some groups have received payments up to 2022, many primary and secondary school retirees have been left without any financial support for years.
In response, the State Commissioner for Information, Kolapo Alimi, attributed the delay to ongoing legal and administrative issues surrounding local government allocations.
He explained that the state has been covering various local responsibilities, which has stalled the funds specifically intended for these retirement bonds.
The government has urged the pensioners to remain patient, assuring them that efforts are being made to resolve the impasse.
Despite a previous release of N4 billion for retirees by Governor Adeleke in 2025, the backlog remains significant due to inherited debts and funding shortages.
