BUA Chair Reaffirms $500,000 Reward for Super Eagles Despite AFCON Exit

Billionaire businessman and Chairman of BUA Group, Abdulsamad Rabiu, has confirmed that he will honour his $500,000 financial pledge to Nigeria’s Super Eagles, notwithstanding the team’s inability to secure the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title.

The industrialist made the announcement on Thursday through a statement posted on his official Instagram account, commending the national team for their commitment and determination during the tournament.

In his message, Rabiu applauded the players for their resilience and fighting spirit, noting that their efforts on the field had earned them the admiration of Nigerians, even though they fell short of lifting the trophy.

“You fought with your hearts, gave your all, and showed true courage and determination on the pitch. Though it wasn’t meant to be this time, you have made every Nigerian proud,” he stated.

He further reflected on the unpredictable nature of sports, emphasizing that success is not always measured solely by results but also by character and unity.

“Sometimes, even our best efforts don’t bring the outcome we hope for, but the spirit, passion and unity you displayed are what truly matter. You left everything on the field, and that is worthy of celebration,” Rabiu added.

The BUA Group chairman reiterated that the promised financial incentive would still be delivered as a gesture of appreciation for the team’s dedication and the excitement they brought to football-loving Nigerians throughout the competition.

Rabiu had earlier pledged the sum as part of efforts to motivate the Super Eagles ahead of the continental tournament, joining other corporate and individual supporters in rallying behind the national team.

Nigeria enjoyed an impressive campaign at the Africa Cup of Nations, advancing to the semi-finals before being eliminated by host nation Morocco. The encounter ended in a goalless draw at regulation time, with Morocco eventually prevailing 4–2 in a penalty shootout at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium on Wednesday.

Despite the painful exit, the Super Eagles won widespread praise for their disciplined performances and competitive run in the tournament.

Encouraging the players to remain focused, Rabiu expressed optimism that the experience gained would strengthen the squad for future challenges.

He urged the team to keep believing in their abilities, stressing that better days lie ahead for Nigerian football.
