Use Voter Card to Shape Your Future, INEC Tells Oyo Residents

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has called on residents of Oyo State to view their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) as a vital tool for determining the future of the country.

During a press conference held on Wednesday in Ibadan, the state’s Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Adeniran Tella, emphasized that the voter card is not merely a piece of plastic but a legal license for citizens to choose their leaders and hold them accountable.

Dr. Tella expressed significant concern over the large number of uncollected PVCs currently held by the commission. He appealed to registered voters who have yet to pick up their cards to take the necessary steps to collect them promptly.

He stressed that full participation from the electorate is essential for a robust democratic process, noting that the voter register should accurately reflect the will of the people.

In preparation for the 2027 general elections, the commissioner disclosed that INEC has identified several logistical challenges, with accessibility being a major hurdle.

To address this, the commission is implementing a new state-wide strategy involving the “rotational movement” of INEC Voter Enrollment Device (IVED) machines across 351 registration areas.

This initiative is designed to bring the registration process closer to the people and ensure that no eligible voter is left behind.

Furthermore, Dr. Tella reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to conducting future elections with the highest levels of integrity, transparency, and efficiency. He urged the media to assist in disseminating information and encouraged eligible residents to participate in the second phase of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.

By addressing past feedback and improving accessibility, INEC aims to build a more inclusive and reliable electoral system ahead of 2027.
