Armed Forces Day: Nigeria Government hails soldiers’ Sacrifices

‎The Federal Government and state governors across Nigeria held special commemorative services on January 11, 2026, to honor military personnel as part of the Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day.

Leaders emphasized that the peace and unity currently enjoyed by the nation were built on the supreme sacrifices and selfless service of fallen heroes and active soldiers.

‎Representing the Federal Government, Senate President Godswill Akpabio reaffirmed the National Assembly’s commitment to restoring Nigeria as a peaceful nation. Similarly, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, highlighted President Bola Tinubu’s dedication to improving the welfare, equipment, and motivation of security agencies to ensure they can effectively combat modern security challenges.

‎State governors, including those of Lagos, Ekiti, and Ondo, joined the tributes by describing military service as a “sacred calling.”

They urged citizens to reflect on the high cost of peace and called for increased support for the families of fallen soldiers, stressing that the nation owes a debt of gratitude to those who protected its territorial integrity.

‎The celebrations featured a notable shift in title to “Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day,” aimed at honoring both the deceased and currently serving personnel.

The week-long activities are scheduled to culminate on January 15, 2026, with the traditional wreath-laying ceremonies and military parades held at the National Arcade in Abuja and in state capitals nationwide.
