Reps Urge Security Agencies to Rescue 27 Abducted Persons in Plateau
The House of Representatives has called on security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue 27 persons, including children, abducted by suspected bandits along the Zak–Sabon Layin axis of Wase Local Government Area in Plateau State.
The call followed the adoption of a motion at plenary on Tuesday, moved by the member representing Wase Federal Constituency, Mr Ahmed Idris. The session was presided over by the Speaker of the House, Mr Tajudeen Abbas.
Moving the motion, Idris expressed deep concern over the latest security breach in the area, noting that the victims comprised 25 children, a teacher, and a tricycle rider. He said the abduction occurred on Sunday, December 21, 2025, within the Bashar District of Wase Local Government Area.
According to him, the victims were travelling to attend a Maulud celebration in Sabon-Layin, Gaji Village, when armed assailants ambushed them along the Zak–Sabon-Layin Gaji axis.
“The House notes with grave concern the abduction of 27 persons, including 25 children, one teacher, and a tricycle rider, by armed bandits,” Idris said. “The victims were en route to a religious gathering when they were attacked and abducted, with the tricycle and the children’s footwear abandoned at the scene.”
He added that the incident has heightened fear and anxiety among residents of the area, particularly parents, and has further disrupted social and religious activities in the community.
Following deliberations, lawmakers urged the military, police, and other relevant security agencies to launch an immediate and coordinated operation to secure the release of the abducted persons and bring the perpetrators to justice.
The House also mandated its Committees on National Security and Intelligence, Army, and Police Affairs to liaise with security agencies and the Plateau State Government to ensure sustained security presence along the affected corridor.
Members further called on the Federal Government to strengthen surveillance and deploy additional security personnel to vulnerable communities in Wase Local Government Area and other flashpoints in Plateau State to prevent future attacks.
The motion was unanimously adopted, reflecting the lawmakers’ concern over the recurring incidents of abduction and insecurity in parts of the country.
