Oyo State Government Lifts Curfew Across 10 LGAs Following Anti-Kidnapping Operations
The Oyo State Government has officially lifted the security curfew previously imposed across 10 local government areas (LGAs) bordering the Old Oyo National Park, reassuring citizens that security forces are actively managing regional safety.
The security restriction was initially declared on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, as a 16-hour daily curfew (running from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m.) following a high-profile kidnapping incident in the Oriire Local Government Area. Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration subsequently extended the measures by an additional 24 hours to give tactical teams and regional security operatives an uninterrupted window to conduct tracking and combed clearance operations throughout the forest corridors.
The 10 local government areas affected by the security lockdown included:
* Oriire
* Orelope
* Irepo
* Saki West
* Saki East
* Atisbo
* Itesiwaju
* Iseyin
* Olorunsogo
* Atiba
Announcing the relaxation of the order in a statement issued from Ibadan, the Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Mr. Dotun Oyelade, confirmed that residents are now free to fully resume their lawful businesses and daily routines. While expressing the state government’s appreciation to the affected communities for their patience, resilience, and strict compliance during the movement restrictions, Oyelade noted that state authorities are maintaining a close watch on regional intelligence to permanently neutralize kidnapping networks and restore lasting public order.
