Tinubu Prioritising Youth Development Through Strategic Investments, Says Tijani

The Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, has said that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is deliberately investing in programmes aimed at securing the future of Nigeria’s youths, communities and the country as a whole.

Tijani made the remarks on Friday while inaugurating a three-day youth basketball tournament tagged “Tech Meets Basketball” in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The competition, organised by the Bosun Tijani Foundation, is taking place at the Alake Sports Centre in Ijeja and is part of activities marking the end of the year festivities.

According to the minister, the initiative was conceived to provide young people with a safe, lively and inclusive environment where they can interact, showcase their talents, gain confidence and build meaningful relationships through teamwork and healthy rivalry.

He noted that platforms of this nature help young people to unlock their abilities beyond sports, adding that such spaces nurture leadership qualities and encourage positive contributions to society.

Tijani explained that the essence of the tournament mirrors the type of nation Nigeria should continue to develop — one where young people, irrespective of their backgrounds, have access to opportunities for personal growth, self-expression and a sense of belonging.

He added that beyond competition, the programme highlights the importance of community, creativity and constructive engagement, especially during the festive season.

According to him, sustained investment in youth-focused initiatives across Ogun State and the wider country aligns with President Tinubu’s vision for national development.

The minister further disclosed that the Federal Government remains committed to policies and innovative strategies designed to expand opportunities for young Nigerians and equip them to drive the country’s growth and progress.

Also speaking at the event, Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, called on individuals, corporate bodies and foundations to partner with government efforts in advancing youth development through sports and other empowerment initiatives.

Abiodun, who was represented by the Commissioner for Sports, Wasiu Isiaka, said the state has witnessed increased sporting activities since hosting the National Sports Festival earlier in the year.

He emphasised the importance of collaboration in expanding sports development, creating more platforms for young people to identify and nurture their talents in athletics and innovation.

The governor commended Tijani for his dedication to youth empowerment, describing such interventions as essential to building a sustainable and prosperous nation.
