Edo State Set To Host Niger Delta Games in February 2026 — Gov. Okpebholo Seeks Stronger NDDC Partnership
Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has reaffirmed the state’s readiness to host the 2026 Niger Delta Games, scheduled to take place in Benin City in February. He also appealed for stronger collaboration with the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to accelerate the development of critical infrastructure across the state.
Governor Okpebholo made the call on Monday while receiving the NDDC Managing Director and other top officials at Government House, Benin City. He noted that hosting the regional sports festival would not only promote unity among Niger Delta states but also boost economic activities and showcase Edo’s sporting facilities.
The governor stressed the need for consistent partnership with the NDDC, especially in areas such as road rehabilitation, rural electrification, and community development.
According to him, resolving infrastructure gaps would enhance the state’s capacity to successfully host the Games and improve the well-being of residents.
He assured the delegation that Edo State is already putting necessary logistics in place, including upgrading sporting venues and improving security measures ahead of the event.
In his remarks, the NDDC Managing Director commended the state’s preparedness and pledged the Commission’s support in ensuring a smooth and successful hosting of the Niger Delta Games.
The 2026 edition of the Games is expected to bring together athletes from all nine Niger Delta states, competing in various sports as part of efforts to foster unity, talent development, and regional integration.
