Kogi Police Debunk Rumoured Bandits’ Invasion in Lokoja, Warn Against False Alarms

The Kogi State Police Command has dismissed reports circulating on social media alleging a bandits’ invasion in parts of Lokoja, describing the claims as false, misleading, and capable of inciting unnecessary panic among residents.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP William Ovye Aya, said the rumour claiming that armed bandits had stormed the Zango, Crusher, and Felele communities was fabricated by mischief-makers intent on creating fear within the state.

CSP Aya stressed that there was no security breach in any of the mentioned areas, adding that police operatives have continued to dominate the security space through routine patrols and intelligence-led operations.

He explained that the Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, had ordered a comprehensive investigation to uncover those behind the spread of the false report.

The CP warned that individuals found culpable would face arrest and prosecution for causing public alarm.

CP Kankarofi reassured the public that the Command remains fully alert and has already deployed tactical units including the Police Mobile Force, counter-terrorism officers, and other special squads to strategic points across the state.

He urged residents to disregard the fake report, go about their lawful activities without fear, and promptly report any suspicious movement or persons to the nearest security formation.

The Command reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace, protecting lives and property, and ensuring that Kogi State remains safe and secure.
