Why I’ll Never Support Peter Obi, Says Seyi Law

Popular Nigerian comedian, Seyi Law, has once again stirred the political waters with his strong stance on the nation’s leadership, declaring his unwavering support for President Bola Tinubu while dismissing the capabilities of opposition figures such as Labour Party’s Peter Obi and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
In his recent appearance on the Teju Babyface Deep Dive podcast, Seyi Law unequivocally asserted that if President Tinubu fails to realign the country’s trajectory, then no other Nigerian politician can achieve it.
“If Tinubu can’t realign Nigeria, then no Nigerian politician can. Not Peter Obi, not Atiku. None of them,” Seyi Law asserted.
Seyi Law, the most vocal supporter of Tinubu during the 2023 presidential election, has remained steadfast in his defense of the President’s policies, urging Nigerians to be patient with the government as economic woes deepen.
Irrespective of backlash against his relocation to the United Kingdom, he maintains that the strategy of Tinubu is strategic and critical to long-term national growth.
The comedian’s latest remarks further cement his political alignment and suggest a firm opposition to Peter Obi’s leadership aspirations. While he has not used the exact words “I’ll never support Peter Obi,” his consistent commentary and rhetoric make his position clear.
Seyi Law has been in a confrontation with Peter Obi fans, often called ‘Obidients’, colloquially. After the 2023 general elections, he offered a ₦1 million reward to the person who could prove that he had insulted Peter Obi and the Igbo people during his campaigns. This followed backlash against a photo he shared with his Igbo wife, which critics found hypocritical.
In September 2023, after the Presidential Election Tribunal upheld Tinubu’s victory, Seyi Law mocked Obi’s supporters, suggesting that the Labour Party candidate never truly expected to win but was hoping for a disqualification of Tinubu to enhance his own chances.
“Peter Obi knows he lost. He was just hoping Tinubu would be disqualified and he would be in a better position for a rerun,” he tweeted, drawing angry reactions from netizens.
Seyi Law, though, has also gone the extra mile to calm down the situation. After the election, he apologized to opposition forces publicly saying political differences should not sow enmity.
I apologize to everyone hurt by my support of Tinubu. We can disagree and still be one in our love for Nigeria,” he asserted.
Seyi Law’s remarks continue to generate mixed reactions among Nigerians, particularly as the country navigates economic reforms and political uncertainty. While his loyalty to President Tinubu remains resolute, his apparent dismissal of Peter Obi’s political potential has sparked debates about objectivity, performance, and patriotism in Nigerian political discourse.
As the nation looks ahead, voices like Seyi Law’s will likely continue to shape public conversation, for better or worse.
