Police Recover 210 Rounds of Ammunition on Zaria–Funtua Highway

The Kaduna State Police Command has launched a full-scale manhunt after recovering 210 rounds of 7.56mm live ammunition abandoned along the Zaria–Funtua Highway

According to a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, the recovery followed a report from residents who witnessed occupants of a black Volkswagen Golf suspiciously throw a sack out of their moving vehicle around the Dogo Itace axis in Samaru, Zaria Responding swiftly, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Samaru led a patrol team to the scene where the sack was found and later confirmed to contain the ammunition. The DPO immediately alerted other divisions along the Zaria–Funtua route in an effort to intercept the fleeing vehicle, but the suspects could not be apprehended due to delays in relaying information. Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Muhammad, praised the vigilance of the residents and urged the public to continue providing timely intelligence to security agencies. He assured that operatives have intensified efforts to track down the suspects and dismantle any network responsible for transporting illegal arms across the state. Muhammad reiterated the Command’s commitment to proactive policing, warning criminals to steer clear of Kaduna State or be prepared to face the full weight of the law. The recovery adds to growing concerns over the movement of illegal ammunition across major northern highways, prompting heightened surveillance and collaboration between security formations in the region. Investigations are ongoing as police work to trace the origins of the recovered ammunition and identify those involved.
