Fake Soldier Nabbed in Ondo for Defrauding Family of Retirement Benefits
The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 35-year-old man, Temigbe Adeola, for allegedly impersonating a Nigerian Army officer and defrauding a family of ₦1.2 million meant for retirement benefits.
According to the police, the victim’s family engaged Adeola to help retrieve the retirement funds of their mother, which were reportedly invested in properties. Instead, the suspect allegedly misappropriated the money for his personal use.
During interrogation, Adeola confessed that he had been discharged from the Nigerian Army in 2023 and claimed he previously served at the 82 Battalion, Enugu.
The police said the investigation is ongoing, noting that some accomplices of the suspect are still at large.
The Ondo State Police Command urged citizens to exercise caution and verify the credentials of anyone claiming to assist with official matters, particularly retirement funds, to avoid falling victim to similar scams.
Adeola remains in police custody and is expected to face charges once the investigation is concluded.
