PDP BOT Member Promises Party Unity, Hails Turaki’s Leadership Prospects
Alhaji Fasiu Bakene, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party’s Board of Trustees, has assured party members that internal divisions will soon be resolved, affirming that the PDP remains poised for a strong showing in the 2027 elections.
Bakene, a former Ogun State House of Assembly member, spoke on Tuesday in Abeokuta, noting that internal crises are common across political parties and expressing optimism that the PDP could resolve its conflicts amicably.
“With the emergence of the new National Chairman, all rifts shall soon be resolved, notwithstanding the gale of defections,” he said.
He described the recent expulsion of Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mr Nyesom Wike, former Ekiti Governor Ayodele Fayose, and National Secretary Mr Samuel Anyanwu as overdue, citing repeated breaches of the party constitution.
“Their utterances and actions have consistently undermined the party that elevated them politically. Rather than honourably leaving, they continued to claim PDP membership while campaigning for rival parties,” Bakene said.
The PDP chieftain lauded the party for electing former Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Alhaji Kabiru Turaki, as national chairman.
He described Turaki as a seasoned administrator whose previous ministerial performance will guide the party to success.
Bakene also praised the recent national convention, highlighting its large delegate turnout and smooth execution. He commended the organising committee and sub-committees on transportation, protocol, accommodation, publicity, and logistics, adding that the event reaffirmed the supremacy of party leadership and structures.
“Emergence of Turaki is a step towards a sound victory for the PDP. His abundant administrative and political experience positions him to deliver the party successfully,” he said.
Bakene concluded by emphasising that the party is committed to restoring discipline, unity, and focus, signalling renewed optimism for the PDP’s future.
