Kabiru Turaki is New PDP National Chairman, Elected at Ibadan Convention

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has elected former Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN), as its new National Chairman following a highly attended national convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Turaki secured a decisive victory during the election conducted at the Lekan Salami Stadium on Saturday, where accredited delegates from 17 states participated in selecting new national officials for the party.

Announcing the results, former Anambra Central senator, Ben Obi, revealed that Turaki polled 1,516 votes, defeating his closest contender, Senator Yakubu Danmarke, who garnered 275 votes. Obi added that 1,834 votes were cast in total, out of which 43 were declared invalid.

“With the votes counted, it is evident that Kabiru Turaki has emerged victorious as the National Chairman of our great party, the PDP,” Obi stated.

He further disclosed that Solarin Adekunle was elected as the Deputy National Organising Secretary, noting that two national offices were contested during the convention.

According to party officials, 3,131 delegates were expected, while 2,745 delegates were successfully accredited for the exercise. The newly elected leadership is expected to lead the PDP into a new phase of internal reforms and political strategy ahead of upcoming national elections.
