Reps Set to Submit Plateau Crisis Report to President Tinubu
The House of Representatives Ad-hoc Committee investigating the recurring crisis in Plateau State has announced that it is ready to submit its final report to President Bola Tinubu as part of ongoing efforts to end decades of violence that have claimed thousands of lives and destroyed property across the state
Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Wale Ahmed, disclosed this in Abuja during a courtesy visit to the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, on Thursday Ahmed said the committee’s work, which involved extensive consultations with stakeholders across Plateau and other relevant quarters, aimed to uncover the root causes of the persistent conflict and recommend lasting solutions. He noted that the report would be presented both to the House of Representatives and President Tinubu in the coming days. According to him, President Tinubu has demonstrated a strong commitment to restoring peace, not only in Plateau State but across the country. He expressed optimism that the findings and recommendations contained in the committee’s report would help guide policy decisions toward achieving lasting stability and justice for affected communities. The committee, inaugurated earlier this year, conducted investigations, field visits, and engagements with community leaders, security agencies, and victims of violence in affected local government areas. Its report is expected to address critical issues such as land disputes, grazing conflicts, ethnic tensions, and gaps in security coordination. Ahmed reiterated that the House remains determined to work closely with the executive arm of government to ensure that peace returns to Plateau State. Civil society groups and local leaders have welcomed the committee’s progress, urging the federal government to act swiftly on its recommendations to end the cycle of attacks and reprisal killings that have plagued the region for years.
