Police Arrest Two Suspected Motorcycle Thieves in Bauchi
Two men have been arrested by operatives of the Bauchi State Police Command while attempting to sell a motorcycle allegedly stolen from a resident of Darazo town.
The suspects — 25-year-old Nura Yau and Bayero Isah, both from Akuyam village in Misau Local Government Area, were intercepted following an intelligence report from a vigilant resident who noticed their suspicious behaviour while they were making inquiries about motorcycle dealers.
Police spokesman Ahmed Wakil, who confirmed the arrest in a statement on Sunday, said detectives immediately trailed and apprehended the suspects.
During interrogation, the duo reportedly confessed to stealing several motorcycles from different locations.
“During questioning, the suspects were identified as 25-year-old Nura Yau and 25-year-old Bayero Isah, both residents of Akuyam village, Misau LGA,” Wakil said.
“They confessed to having stolen the motorcycles from Akuyam village on September 30, 2025, and from the Juma’at Mosque in Darazo town.”
He added that investigations confirmed Auwal Adamu, 50, as the rightful owner of the motorcycle stolen in Darazo.
Following preliminary findings, the state Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, ordered the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and prosecution.
Wakil reaffirmed the command’s resolve to intensify efforts against theft and other forms of criminality, urging residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements to security agencies.
He said, “The Commissioner of Police calls on the public to be alert and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police station, as prevention is always better than cure.”
Incidents of motorcycle theft have become increasingly common across several states.
Similar arrests were recorded recently in Kano and Anambra, where police recovered stolen motorcycles and apprehended suspects involved in theft and resale operations.
