Give Nigerians Results, Not Excuses, Tinubu Charges Service Chiefs

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has charged the newly appointed service chiefs to deliver tangible results in the fight against insecurity across Nigeria, warning that excuses will no longer be tolerated.

Speaking during a meeting and decoration ceremony held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, the President emphasized that Nigerians are eager to see improved security and lasting peace in all regions of the country. He made it clear that the administration’s confidence in the new security leadership must be matched by visible outcomes on the ground.

“We are in a hurry to celebrate peace. Nigerians are not interested in excuses; they want results,” Tinubu declared.

The President urged the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, along with other newly appointed heads of the Army, Navy, and Air Force, to work in unity and adopt innovative strategies to defeat terrorism, banditry, and other security challenges. He stressed the need for proactive intelligence gathering, better coordination among security agencies, and the integration of advanced technology in military operations.

Tinubu acknowledged the sacrifices of the armed forces and commended their recent achievements in reclaiming occupied territories and rescuing victims of abduction. However, he said much more remains to be done, particularly in tackling the activities of emerging armed groups in the North-Central, North-West, and parts of the South.

“Security is the foundation of every other aspect of national development,” he noted. “Without peace, there can be no progress. Our people deserve to live without fear.”

The President assured the military of his administration’s full support in terms of logistics, welfare, and modern equipment to enhance operational effectiveness. He also called for better collaboration between the security forces and communities to improve intelligence sharing and foster public trust.

Responding on behalf of the service chiefs, General Oluyede thanked the President for the confidence reposed in them and pledged renewed dedication to restoring peace and order. He assured Nigerians that the armed forces would intensify operations and strengthen inter-agency cooperation to achieve the President’s directive.

Security analysts have described Tinubu’s message as a strong statement of accountability, signaling a shift toward performance-driven military leadership. The new service chiefs are expected to unveil a revised counter-insurgency strategy in the coming weeks, focusing on rapid response, intelligence-led operations, and protection of civilians.

The President’s firm stance comes amid renewed concerns over attacks by criminal groups in several parts of the country. Nigerians, weary of prolonged insecurity, now await whether the new military leadership can deliver the “results, not excuses” that Tinubu has demanded.
