Russia Launches Massive Airstrike on Ukraine, Kills Six Including Infant

Russia launched a large-scale air attack on several Ukrainian cities early Wednesday, unleashing one of the most intense bombardments in recent months.

The overnight assault caused widespread power outages, destroyed residential buildings, and left at least six people dead, including a six-month-old baby, according to Ukrainian authorities.

Ukraine’s Air Force reported that the strikes targeted critical infrastructure across multiple regions, including Kyiv, Kharkiv, Dnipro, and Lviv. Dozens of missiles and Iranian-made drones were reportedly fired in waves, overwhelming air defense systems in several areas.

Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko confirmed the casualties, noting that emergency responders were still working to rescue people trapped under the rubble of collapsed buildings.

“Among the victims is a six-month-old baby and her mother. This is another act of terror against our civilians,” Klymenko said in a statement.

Officials also reported extensive damage to power plants and substations, leading to blackouts in several regions. The state energy company, Ukrenergo, described the damage as “severe,” warning that full restoration of electricity could take days.

President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the strikes, accusing Russia of deliberately targeting civilian infrastructure.

“They want to break our spirit by plunging us into darkness and fear, but Ukraine will not surrender,” Zelensky said in a televised address.

The latest assault comes amid rising tensions along the front lines and ongoing international efforts to secure additional air defense support for Ukraine. Western allies have strongly condemned the attack, calling for renewed pressure on Moscow to end its aggression.

Since Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022, thousands of civilians have been killed and millions displaced in what has become Europe’s largest armed conflict in decades.
